Genus Appoints New Chief Financial Officer

SUNNYVALE, Calif.-September 24, 2001-Genus, Inc. (Nasdaq: GGNS) announced that it has hired Mr. Shum Mukherjee as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Mukherjee, 51, has broad financial management experience which includes senior financial positions at Raychem Corporation, Ford of Europe and most recently, E*TRADE Group, Inc. (NYSE: ET).

His broad experience includes financial operations in a manufacturing environment and oversight of internal controller activities, as well as working with the external financial community."

Mukherjee joins Genus from E*TRADE Group, where, since 1998, he has held several senior management positions, including vice president, finance, of E*TRADE International, and vice president, finance, and corporate controller of E*TRADE Group. Mukherjee earned an MBA from the Sloan School of Management at MIT.

This new appointment comes after the resignation of Ken Schwanda, Genus' former CFO, who remains a consultant to Genus during the transition period. Schwanda and his family have relocated out of the Bay Area.
